Pete Leum Obituary

Lieutenant Commander Peter L. Leum, USN, formerly of Old State Road, Media, died in an airplane accident at China Lake Naval Weapons Center, California on November 21, 1979. Memorial services have been conducted in China Lake and in Jacksonville, Florida.

Commander Leum, who was 37 years old, is survived by his mother Lillian (Lyn), a former member of the Rose Tree Media School Board, and by his sister, Mrs. Karla Stoner of Middletown, MD.

As a life-long resident of Media, he attended local public schools and was graduated from Penncrest High School in 1960. He was active in Scouting in Upper Providence Troop 342 and in Explorer Post 342.

Commander Leum entered the Naval Service shortly after graduation from Pennsylvania State University in 1966, and earned his wings as a naval aviator. He was a career naval officer and was one of only two officers approved by the Navy this year for squadron command. He was most recently serving with Squadron VX-5 at China Lake.
