JoAnne Meiser Singley

Kati Marosan

After graduation, I was employed by Met Life, and Sun Oil Company, R&D, Marcus Hook, PA.  I was married on December 7, l968 (yes, Pearl Harbor Day) to Philip Singley of Sharon Hill and a graduate of Drexel University.

I met Phil after he completed his service as an officer in the US Navy. During Phil’s military career he took part in over 200 combat missions in Viet Nam. He flew off the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (See Fire on the Hangar Deck, Ordeal of the Oriskany, by Wynn F. Foster) I am thankful the Lord kept him safe and gave him to me.

We have two sons, Brent and Jeff, and four grandchildren: Owen (6), Alison (3), James and Claire – 22 month old twins. Brent is a partner at Hogan and Hartson in McLean, VA. Jeff is an MD and LCDR, USN, stationed in Okinawa. He is the department head of Family Practice at the Naval Hospital. Jeff will be transferred to Quantico, VA soon as a flight surgeon for the HMX-1 Marine Helicopter Squadron which serves the President. He previously served our country in Iraq as a flight surgeon to the Harrier Squadron VMA-542.

We have moved seven times in the PA and NJ while Phil worked for Mobil Oil Corporation as a supply manager. We were transferred to the Fairfax region in November of 1982. While living in Fairfax Station we had the opportunity to visit the White House and shake hands with President Reagan. We had the privilege of going there on several occasions.

Our most recent trip was to Tokyo, then south to Okinawa. Trust me, it is a very long trip, especially if you do not like to fly. We now travel a lot to our second home in Ocean City, NJ where we enjoy watching the Phillies.

While I was single, some of my travels included London, Berlin, Venice, Florence, Rome, Lucerne and Paris. I especially remember my trip into East Berlin and the wall – something I will never forget.

Phil and I have been blessed to be married for 41 plus years. We have always tried to keep Jesus Christ at the head of our home. Our main focus has been our faith and family. Phil would say I am the engine that keeps things running.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you and wish you good health. I pray we will have many wonderful years ahead.
