I graduated from Albright College with a BA in Sociology. Married Tom, also an Albright grad, and settled back in Media until Tom was drafted in 1965. He was lucky enough, through a fluke, to be stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany, where I was able to join him for nearly a year. That was a magical time for us, traveling around in our beat-up VW, seeing lots of Germany, and Switzerland. Didn't have much money, but a dollar went pretty far back then in Germany. ( The pastries were divine, and one of the things I missed most upon return to the States--what a thing to admit!)
Following Army service, we made our home in Lansdowne, where we've been ever since. Raised 3 daughters: Beth and Amy (41) and Jill (37). They all got their degrees (Dickinson and PSU), married, and now live along the East coast from CT to VA. Among all of them, we have 7 grandchildren (10 yrs - 1 month), with one more due in early May. We don't see enough of them, but we are glad that they are within fairly easy driving distance. When we can, we enjoy spending quality, relaxing time with family at our lake cottage in Skaneateles, NY. The girls spent nearly every summer there growing up, and now enjoy giving their children the same laid-back experience. We love it, too.
Before family arrived, I worked with the Department of Welfare in Chester as a caseworker. This was during the Johnson years, when there were so many "War on Poverty" programs to offer clients. It was a good time to be working in that field. Later, I worked for CONTACT Philadelphia, overseeing the Deaf and Reassurance programs there for a number of years, in addition to being a volunteer, a wonderfully rewarding experience. I have also tutored for the Literacy Council, and now focus my volunteer efforts working with DCMH hospice, and being part of the managing team for our church gift shop, in addition to other activities at church. Tom and I have traveled some, with our favorite trip the 3 weeks we spent traveling with friends in New Zealand. We highly recommend NZ--what a clean, gorgeous, diverse country.
It will be fun to reconnect with old friends after 45 years! (I DID make the 5th year reunion at the old Media Inn!) Cheers!
