Ethelwyn (Wyndy) Worden

Wyndy Worden

Ethelwyn “Muff” Worden, 63, of Iceland, formerly of Dover and many other
places, died Aug. 25, 2006, in the Faroe Islands while on vacation.Ms. Worden was born Jan. 17, 1943, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Warren L. and Mildred E. Worden.

She traveled extensively during her life, taking up residence in a number of U.S. states and other countries, including China and Italy. She graduated from Temple University with a major in music.

Ms. Worden was a person of far-reaching intelligence and talent who spoke five languages fluently and could write in three, including Icelandic. She was possessed of a wonderful contralto singing voice. She lived in Dover from 1976 to 1985 and was deeply involved in the local cultural scene, producing, directing and acting in many stage productions, including a number of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. She also was a member of the Community Singers and the Kent County Theatre Guild.

A skilled harpist, Ms. Worden had earned her living as a music professor at Wesley College and during her time in the First State founded and taught the Baroque Madrigal Choir. She later became public relations director at Wesley and later still an office manager at the Swedenborgian Church in Boston.

Her last position was as a music teacher, choir director and concert artist in Seydisfjordur, Iceland, to where she had moved in 1995. Here, too, she contributed greatly to the cultural activities of Seydisfjordur and neighboring villages, both as a performer and as the organizer/administrator of an annual summer concert series of visiting artists. She was a woman of tremendous energy and drive.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Worden was preceded in death by a sister, Gretchen Worden, in 2004. Ms. Worden is survived by her brother, Dexter Worden, of Newark; and a sister, Jen Worden, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and her close friends Ona Weiner, Pat Randolph and Ed Adams. at the Old Mill in Westminster, MA.
